Background of the Study

Social media has revolutionized journalism by enabling real-time reporting and direct communication between media outlets and the public. In the context of disaster management, social media journalism has proven to be an invaluable tool for providing timely information, coordinating relief efforts, and raising awareness. Birnin Kebbi LGA, the capital of Kebbi State, has experienced several natural and man-made disasters, including floods and health emergencies. Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp have played an increasingly important role in disseminating information and mobilizing community responses during these disasters (Suleiman & Bala, 2023). This study seeks to explore the role of social media journalism in disaster management in Birnin Kebbi LGA, focusing on how journalists use social media platforms to manage and mitigate the effects of disasters.
